VOLUNTEERS

The One World Spokane volunteer program offers volunteers a food voucher for each hour donated.  If guests find they don't have enough money to pay for their meal, they can volunteer to work in the kitchen, our garden or elsewhere in our organization or the community.  The restaurant offers these volunteer options that can fit anyone's abilities, regardless of age, health or physical limitations. We will provide one meal voucher for each hour of service. Children eight years and under can eat on their parent's voucher.

Since opening in October 2008, we have served 6900 meals in exchange for volunteer vouchers.

In addition to meal vouchers, individuals who work in the kitchen for a set number of hours will receive certification for experience in certain aspects of kitchen procedure like dishwashing, prep cook, etc. They can then take this training with them, if they choose, to other opportunities in the restaurant industry.  This is another example of a hand up rather than a hand out.

What Our Volunteers Are Saying

"So I am actually really glad I put the service learning assignment off to the last moment, because I ended up finding One World Spokane.  One World Spokane is an Organic Community Kitchen, you choose your own portions and pay what you feel the meal was worth.  I showed up just before 10 o'clock this morning and they put me to work.  I set up all the chairs, cleaned off the tables, cleaned up the back area, then got the dishes going.  I did dishes for probably four hours straight, and then helped them clean up.  It was great!  People came in from all walks of life, all ages, and ate great food.

I can't wait to go back to eat!  I had been wanting an organic resteraunt to go to for quite some time, and to think there has been one just on east Sprague this whole time.  I am definately sold on this place, and am going to recomend it to as many people as I can!"
